Just Create - Three Weeks for Dreamwidth Week 1

What are you working on? What have you finished? What do you need encouragement on?

Are there any cool events or challenges happening that you want to hype?

What do you just want to talk about?

What have you been watching or reading?

Chores and other not-fun things count!

Remember to encourage other commenters and we have a discord where we can do work-alongs and chat, linked in the sticky

I'm a bit pooped, so here's just some bare links about 3 weeks for Dreamwidth:

1. Made something for 3weeks4dw (admittedly I'm anxious about sharing it)

2. I worked on more perspective and I'm FINALLY making some head way, it's glorious. I think continuing to study this fundamental for the rest of the year is the best choice.

3. I realized what was going wrong with my comic during this first round of editting! So... Hopefully my composition and choice of what to draw will make the story more pleasing and coherent now.

4. My art style's becoming more me?

I think my next goal is figuring out how people balance making comics and shit with other stuff because I seriously feel I'm getting closer to figuring that out and I REALLY wanna be more prolific than I am rn (and more comfortable posting stuff).

Anyway... Good to be back! Good luck everyone.

"figuring out how people balance making comics and shit with other stuff" VERY relatable!! I've been seriously trying to get back into art as of this year and this feels like the big struggle. I can manage a doodle a day but managing bigger projects is such a challenge on top of work, life commitments, etc. I hope you figure out what works for you soon!!

It REALLY is hard. Does art ever feel like commiting to a group or friendship? Because that's what it feels like for me. Like you have to actively put a lot of effort into the relationship if you want art to reciprovate and give you that same sort of attention. It's so labor intensive that it becomes intimidating for me sometimes.

So I do want to say thanks for the kind words of encouragement!

But despite all that, it IS fun to try and I hope you're still having fun while trying to navigate balancing and scheduling as well. :D

Ooooooh that's a really good analogy! To that end, personally I've been re-connecting with that relationship through a lot of chill hangouts rather than having any big deep conversations. It is fun, even though it doesn't feel like very much, but maybe just maintaining the relationship day-to-day has its own value.

I've been putting some words into my fanfic! And re-reading an old favourite in the fandom (Auburn's "Unnatural Selection", SGA/SGU fusion alternate universe, if anyone wants a rec, : ) ) The socks are still to be knitted, too, but instead I was browsing Ravelry for other interesting patterns today, lol. My knitting/crochet queue will never end... and I like it that way! : )

I've been posting to my journal here as well! It's fun!

Still drawing every day, including a bit of progress on the specific Mother's Day gift drawing I said I wanted to work on last week. 2 concept sketches + put down the sketch for the final piece and juuuuuuust barely started put down ink on it.

Not as much as I wanted to get done but I just got a new (well, not NEW, but new-to-me) video game and I keep losing track of time when I'm playing it, lol oops.

I'd really like to finish that drawing so I can get back to personal projects!

I've finally finished and published a zine. It's called GET OFF YOUR PHONE and GET ON YOUR COMPUTER and is about old web/blog stuff and can be found here.

I've gotten back to working on my website. With all the fuss about what's going on at Tumblr I've restarted posting some meta there, though now I'm back to the Project of Compiling The Links, which is good, but also not my original intention.

I am at the point of my novel where I really need to reread to understand where I'm going and now I'm tempted to just start rewriting because it really needs rewriting. Aside from this I need to get to knitting for my cosplay because the convention is in like two months at this point and I barely have the vest done, so I really need to get going if I want it done in time.

Congrats on the zine! It's super cute, I love it!! I'm all for a slower, more intentional internet experience - do you mind if I print a few of these to share?

Having started rewriting a novel from scratch myself, I totally get you on that - sometimes it's just gotta happen. Good luck!

You can print out a few to share! I'm just going to ask you not mass distribute or sell them.

I agree, the Internet should be slower, and things should stay where you put them. The lack of object permanence on the web is its own issue, a major one. Maybe I should make a zine about it... haha.

I'm doing my best on the rewrite. Good luck with yours!

Oh yes, definitely not mass distributing or selling, just thinking of giving a couple to friends! Thank you!

I checked out your zine, it’s fun and cool! I also remember the early days of the internet. (late 90’s, early 2000’s for me) I didn’t make a website of my own, but I had artwork posted on an old fantasy art site called Elfwood, and I was constantly reading fan sites of the shows I watched. Fun times!

I wish there were more fansites and shrines and stuff, it's really obnoxious how much fandom is just social media these days.

Yes, I wish it were like that too. The fandom in which I'm currently most active is mainly on Twitter. (and Wattpad for fanfiction, not many of those fans use AO3 anymore either)

In solo boardgaming I still sometimes see people making blogs or websites to log their playing sessions or write reviews for games. That is always fun to encounter.

I got a copy of your zine! I really love it. Honestly, super inspiring. I'm a total 90s kid so the idea of zines is pretty much still the height of cool-ness as far as I'm concerned.

Welp, now that I’m effectively finished with university—at least, until I decide to go back for a master’s—I’ll at the least be full-sending into outlining my current big Pokéfic project while job-searching besides. I’d like to have finished a couple of other fics by now (esp. according to a loose schedule I’d originally set out for myself for the rest of the year), but the hype’s unfortunately been flowing differently these past few weeks; that being said, I have half a mind to make up for my prior blogging tie-in plans with a series of posts on the apparently pretty interesting Hundred Line instead…

…And I should probably come up with something to do for this ‘three weeks’ thing, huh?

It's the last week of class coming up (HOW? where is this year going) so I have a lot of tests to make and things to grade.

I have two short stories I want to work on so that's a pretty full docket

I've been doing a lot of crochet - a rainbow blanket, a teddy bear sweater, and a freeform stitch diary. I'm looking forward to Golden Week and maybe even getting some writing done?

Dang, a blanket and a sweater are two big things to have going on at once!! Nice! I always admire it when folks just take on big projects like that, I always find them intimidating to start.

Well, the sweater is for a teddy bear, so it's not so big a project. As for the blanket… I pretty much always have a baby blanket or a lapghan going on in the background, they're my favorite thing to make!

I've been learning how to make icons for DW! I've been working on posting my fic here and found it fun to use icons to note the POV character in the ones I've already gotten set up, but now I have my biggest fic project left to start posting and I don't have all the icons I need. Excited to work on that today, and hopefully get the fic posted (at least in part) through the rest of 3 Weeks.

And then, eventually, I'll get back to writing more :3 But one thing at a time!

Hi!

[personal profile] dividedbyblue 2025-04-27 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi everyone! First post here in this community, how are you all?

* What are you working on? What have you finished?

- Working on an acrylic painting, it needs to be finished on Wednesday. I’ve been struggling with this one, I think mainly because the painting is quite large and acrylic paint dries so fast, that you don’t have much time to blend colors. I’m going to start experiment with oil paint after this one.

- Finished: A weekly fanart pencil drawing of a Sapphic couple I love from a Spanish telenovela

* What have you been watching or reading?

Reading a few Spanish fanfics. I’m still learning Spanish (240 days Duolingo), and I’m happy that I can already read things in Spanish with the help of lookup up a lot. But still it’s challenging.

Watching not much, to be honest. Only the Spanish telenovella I’m following. I’ve been wanting to see a few selected episodes of Black Mirror when I find the opportunity for it.
