Well, after having a hell of an epiphany that I either:

  • Have been writing for an audience that I thought I wasn’t a part of (and ostensibly prided myself on ‘filtering’, as it were)
  • Have been writing for an audience that I’m actually not a part of (or at least wouldn’t be, if not for my authorial perspective)

I’m thinking that I’ll take a small break (as if I haven’t already, thanks to prior spiralling) to get my bearings one way or the other—via a possible zine submission for me to experiment with on one end, and some authors to see how I really feel about on the other.

That’ll have to wait until after I fight off the fruits of my procrastination over this weekend, though—hopefully to the tune of passing grades by the end of it…

Ack, sorry about that! I thought I'd clicked "reply" to the post, not your comment 🤦‍♀️

I hope you come back from your break refreshed, with a renewed desire to write!

Hah, don’t worry about it—thanks for the good wishes either way!

>>What are you working on? What have you finished? What do you need encouragement on? <<

I'm working on the last poem from the October Poetry Fishbowl.

I started a repair project today that I haven't finished yet, but I'm really pleased with the construction staple gun that I bought for it.

I finished a major seed-gathering and photography trip.

>> Are there any cool events or challenges happening that you want to hype? <<

We plan to visit the Apple Festival this weekend, which should have some craft vendors to browse.

>> What have you been watching or reading? <<

Currently watching a Halloween themed baking show. Currently reading Miss Amelia's List.

>>Chores and other not-fun things count!<<

Sooo much watering.

Watching Halloween baking sounds fun, yummy, and spooky. 🎃 The Apple Festival sounds like a lot of fun, too. Good luck with your projects! Looks like you're working on them steadily.

There are various baking, cooking, decorating, etc. shows available this time of year, so we usually try to watch at least one.

We loved it last year. It started with the orchard and then spilled into the town.

Yep. The weather cooled off enough that last night I went looking for air plants to order for the planned lantern terrarium.

I'm not working on anything at the moment but I'm trying to find my way towards writing again. I miss it like crazy and I've been journaling by hand the last few years to at least have a way to make words but it doesn't feel the same as writing imaginatively. I joined DW because I was hoping that the writing and prompt communities would help inspire me (and they did get me back into reading fanfiction, which has been nice). Unfortunately, someone I used to really care about would regularly guilt trip me about my writing - whether it was guilt over what I was writing or why I was writing (they insisted I should only write for money) or how I spent time writing instead of being with them sometimes. Now every time I try to write, I feel gripped by this annoying guilt I can't seem to shake, as if I'm a bad person for wanting to do something that makes me happy instead of pleasing someone else or trying to get something out of it other than fun. I've cut this person out of my life and feel better generally for it but I haven't mastered having fun without feeling guilty yet and I feel like it's really blocking me creatively. :\

Most of what I watch is horror gaming and I've been enjoying play throughs of Silent Hill f, Little Nightmares 3, Resident Evil: Village, and Until Dawn (an oldie but a goodie).

That experience sounds like a nightmare. I hate that you (or anyone tbh) went through that. Good luck with reclaiming your creative spark!

Well, speaking of pockets I mended the weak points the back pockets of my jeans were making last night, so these jeans still have a little more life in them yet (as they should, they're only like a year old).

I'm getting close to finishing my security+ renewal so that will be a load off of me.

I need to get a chapter out to my writing group today so they'll have enough time to read it by the 18th.

Craft projects have kind of fallen by the wayside of late...

I have not written anything save RP tags, for most of a MONTH. And it sucks because I want to write but my brain is like "Hmm, nah, how about RP?"

Currently working on Homework. All the homework. Just finished some online discussion posts, still need to write a five paragraph paper on a current event and how it is or isn't a social problem. I'm going for nuclear shrimp. I'm hoping to at least get the first two paragraphs roughed out tonight, and dig through my notes for possible citations (we need to cite two things we've watched or gone over for class, and class lecture notes are included as an option). I am very much feeling the expression on my icon right now.

In more fun news, [community profile] pokepodproject's Gen 2 stories just went live! I was assigned and wrote for Xatu and Sneasel, and wrote a Smeargle fic as a treat. If you like Pokémon and want some short vignettes to read or listen to, this and last year's Gen 1 collection are nice to check out, IMO.

What are you working on? What have you finished? What do you need encouragement on? I am working on Lamplighters Guild, an interactive fiction novel. I am nearing the end of chapter 3. Mostly I just need to keep focused. I'm aiming to write 2k per day, with a minimum of something each day. Right now I'm 960 words away from hitting my 2k for today.

Sometimes focus is tough, but body doubling usually helps.

Are there any cool events or challenges happening that you want to hype? No, alas.

What do you just want to talk about? That strange resistance I feel when nearing the end of something. When I near the end of a chapter, I get this odd feeling. First, reaching the end feels a bit like Zeno's arrow. Everytime I think I'm close, I still have half the way to go. Second, finishing feels like an Event and Events are to be avoided, so an odd reluctance grows the closer I get.

Has anyone else experienced this?

What have you been watching or reading? Mostly webcomics. I'm also reading Stamped from the Beginning which is fantastic. A little dry at first, but once you adjust, it flows really well.
