Been trying to get into solo RPGs for some time now to try and fill that creative void of mine, and I’m starting to see some further extents to which I’m my own worst enemy in that sense—the very premise of constantly iterative improv kind of flies in the face of my more perfectionist approach to anything I’m actually passionate about, for one…

That being said, I think I’ve nailed down my ideal setup to be a thoroughly simulationist system and statblocks that I can use in tandem with an outwardly nonsensical setting and oracles—the former being especially important, because if I have to make my own call about what a statistic or mechanic represents beyond itself (e.g. whether a monster truck is ‘big’ or ‘very big’), that means I have to start making sense of other stuff in relation to it (e.g. whether anything bigger than a monster truck would even be relevant for my purposes)…which inevitably leads to a snag somewhere down the line that I hadn’t thought about before starting.

Whether said setup is even possible is something I suppose I’ll find out, though I’ve at least heard interesting (and ‘interesting’) things about Four Against Darkness

I have just finished all the things for [community profile] fandomtrees which was a lot.

I need to work on class lectures and cleaning this place but I have zero motivation for either

I'm still hacking away at posts from the Holiday Poetry Sale. However, I finished setting up themes for the early half of this year. \o/ I think my favorite is "I am SO done with this!" :D

Today we found that our usual craft show was a small farm show. With a buffet meal for donations. Several of our regular friends were there, along with lots of new people. It was so much fun.

The 150th Crowdfunding Creative Jam is running this weekend with a theme of "Memories." I already have the freebie up.

>>What have you been watching or reading? <<

Currently watching: The Sandman. Currently reading: seed catalogs. Well, and we fired the previous cookbook, so we started the new maple cookbook that we just bought.

I've made good headway on breaking up brush and raking leaves.

Working on: I've been pecking away at my current "mindless" cross stitch WIP, art nouveau autumn (Sheila Hudson).

Need encouragement on: Mom has reminded me that I owe several people memory quilts. I need to dig out the craft room table and the ironing board, and I just can't get started for whatever reason.

Events: The Celebration of Needlework is happening in Nashua, NH, USA in May. It's basically Cross Stitch Con. I go for the shopping and socializing but they also do workshops.

Reading: Assiduously grinding through Tome 3 of Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle, The System Of The World. I am about to test the limits of my library's renewal policy yet again. After that I have a small stack of newish short SF/fantasy to dip into.

Watching: All the Star Trek.

Chores and whatnot: Last week I filed ALL THE THINGS. Now instead of a massive looming avalanche, I have a neat section of curated books on the top shelf of my desk. (No, I did not find the vet records I was looking for. Alas. I heroically phoned BOTH vet offices and now I have the boys' complete records in PDF form. HUZZAH.)

Pic of the autumn WIP, featuring too-large Q-snaps. wildly off grain aida, and cheesy shiny embroidery scissors I got for Christmas:

I am working on a werewolf story and added some depth to that today, while watching the Red Wings and the Senators play (hockey). Going to try to crochet in a bit.

Reading? I dunno. Some sort of shifter romance.

Last night I stayed up until very far past my bedtime finishing the longfic I've been working on for ~15 years. To say it feels like an accomplishment is an understatement. There's still editing, of course, so the project isn't entirely ready to be put away, but holy cow, it's all written! Clocks in at 190 chapters, word count of about 342,000. I have all kinds of feels about it finally being done.

I've been lowkey doing the Snowflake Challenge, though I'm rather far behind at this point. I may yet try to catch up today or tomorrow.

I'm trying to learn how to use Dreamwidth after being a long time lurker (and also coming back from a long and unintended break from fandom), so I joined the [community profile] snowflake_challenge the other day. And while still feeling a bit nervous and anxious at times, I am having a good time writing and reading about stuff I wouldn't usually write all while interacting with new people.
On a similiar note, I've been eyeing this community as well so I thought I'd jump in an post a comment.

Yesterday, I reorganized my kitchen and I finally feel at peace with plenty of countertop space and the tools/utilities I most use readily available. I was even able to add some decorations without it looking the least cramped. That felt really nice.
Next, I want to reorganize my art supplies in my study. I need to tidy up in there on a whole too, but I have four of these tilted pen organizers (they look like a small bookshelf) on top of my regular book shelf, and I realized if I organize each of them thematically I can just grab one and bring to my desk when I want to draw. The general tidying feels a bit overwhelming right now so I thought if I zone it on the art supplies and get that sorted, maybe that will get me drawing a bit more in-between tackling the big tidy up.
