Just Create - Pattern Edition

Three Weeks for Dreamwidth is starting. Could somebody link to the official stuff?

What are you working on? What have you finished? What do you need encouragement on?

Are there any cool events or challenges happening that you want to hype?

What do you just want to talk about?

What have you been watching or reading?

Chores and other not-fun things count!

Remember to encourage other commenters and we have a discord where we can do work-alongs and chat, linked in the sticky.

[community profile] 3weeks4dreamwidth is the unofficial "official" community. Here is the friending meme. Posts tagged "three weeks for dreamwidth" get picked up by this feed on the Latest Things tracker.

I'm working on swatching for a knitted tee. I actually started the tee already but misread the pattern, plus it wasn't coming out well, so I am starting over and dutifully making a swatch. It's torture of plain stockinette, but it IS coming out pretty now that I have interchangeable needles and can use different sizes for my knit and purl rows (well, I could have done that before, but interchangeables makes it mindless)

I haven't written because of medication fuckery. It sucks.

But I have play off hockey on the big TV and am enjoying an afternoon of hockey, cat snuggles and reading.

My big introduction post is here. You can point people to that for a list of activities and ideas on how to participate.

Sooo much planting! :D Today we caught the native plant sale at a local nature center. In addition to the usual perennial wildflowers, they also had several kinds of tree seedlings at bargain prices. \o/ I am richer by a tulip poplar, a red oak, and two persimmons.

I just started my Three Weeks for Dreamwidth posts; this year's theme is becoming an expert by reading 3 books on a subject.

>>Are there any cool events or challenges happening that you want to hype?<<

My main Three Weeks post has a list of challenges and other stuff that people are doing.

>>What have you been watching or reading?<<

Currently watching: High Potential.

Currently reading: a New Orleans cookbook, ugh I'm too tired to get up and find the title.

They're both listed in [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith's roundup, but here's individual links anyway:

I made some colorful Dreamsheep icons for [community profile] dreamsheep, and am taking requests there; and at [community profile] moodthemeinayear, I've made some calendars for anyone who wants to make a mood theme in a hurry (one or two moods per day) and thinks that a month is simply too long, never mind a whole year!

I've been working on a 2x2 ribbed knitted hat, one fic, and slowly importing all of my fics/Ficlets from my Tumblr before I delete it. All of that while I'm not working or packing that is, mostly I've just been packing and cleaning honestly.

As for watching, I've been watching my stupid beloved teams being bad at their respective sports. The Minnesota Twins (baseball) are on a bad losing streak but the Minnesota Wild (hockey) luckily tied their playoff series this evening and did it in the most difficult way possible (overtime).

I'm looking forward to being able to relax a bit soon hopefully, I'd love to actually sit down and write for longer than a minute or two.

What are you working on? What have you finished? What do you need encouragement on?

I've been focusing on Drawabox lessons recently, but I really want to get back to make some personal art for myself.

What do you just want to talk about?

I've been playing this game called People of Note recently, which is really fun, and I wish more people were talking about/playing it. It has it flaws but the battle system more than makes up for it.

What have you been watching or reading?

I've been watching Witch Hat Atleir and Chi's Sweet Home to help with my Japanese listening. Book wise, The Complete Collection of Oz, Angels Before Man, and Passing Through Pugartory

This week, Mr Diane & I built a greenhouse from a kit. This was the one insurance paid for, to replace the one that got wiped out by a pine tree.

They claim this kit can be built by 2 people in 8 hours. HA HA HA HA HA. Maybe the base kit with no extensions; and maybe IF those 2 people are tall, half our age, know EXACTLY what they're doing including where all of their tools are, AND aren't constrained by things like very close retaining walls outside and raised beds inside the ruins of the old greenhouse.

It took us four and a half days. We are somehow still speaking to each other.

Here's hoping this one lasts more than a couple of years. To be fair, it's built like a freaking tank. And let us not forget to honor the previous one for its sacrifice (THANK F*** IT WASN'T THE REAL HOUSE).

I also got a tiny bit of stitching done.

I am trying to keep working on a couple of sewing projects I am feeling uninspired by - one a slightly weird sunhat alteration (I want to be able to wear my big headphones and a sunhat with a full brim at the same time, without spending £££ on an Australian branded one designed for leaf-blower users with ear defenders), and the other some dolly clothes for a little rag doll that my kid has probably forgotten about and grown out of as it’s been in my sewing pile so long.

I also have a very detailed drawing I would like to finish colouring in - I drew it almost two years ago while in hospital for a bit. It’s a sort of map of an enchanted woodland with various houses, characters and places, intended to facilitate a kind of choose-your-own-adventure game/story. I haven’t worked out all the details as yet but have a number of fun and moderately impractical ideas. But again, I should get on and finish it as that would be satisfying and nice.

Plus I have a collage idea I am very slowly working on, applying images to thin card so I can raise them off a background.

I am also about to restart pottery classes - I did five weeks last term and it turns out I am really quite bad at pottery (throwing on a wheel). But I enjoyed it and would like to try the glazing step that we didn’t do last time. So I signed up for a second term. I feel this will probably be where I stop, though!

I probably have too many different crafts I enjoy doing.
