I stopped on the way back from walking to the mailbox to poke around the yard of a house I thought was probably abandoned, & now I'm pretty sure it's abandoned. It's got a hole in the roof & one small hole in a window & that's ... really not much wrong with it? I mean. Given that I have no idea what it looks like inside.
But it's obvious the yard was really cared for once -- little walls of some of the pretty local rocks lining pathways, some REALLY big old trees. Excellent shady spots.
I have hereby declared that if I get kicked out of where I am (which is probably unlikely but: my brain) I will break into this place & live there.
This comment brings back memories. We had an abandoned house on our block when I was a kid. The house was set far back in the lot, so had an extra large front yard that was surrounded by bushes. The bushes got overgrown, but us kids used to squeeze through the bushes to explore the yard. It was like our own private forest! We caught butterflies there, and once discovered a den of kittens. Fun times.
On a much smaller scale, I live on the 4th floor with 3 other apartments where everyone moved out. I live in New York by the way. For a time, my partner and I could use the entire hallway to ourselves without concern for our 4th neighbors. It was good while it lasted.
