look, burning all the spinning wheels in the kingdom is not wise macroeconomics! spinning wheels are a labor-saving device compared to hand spinning, and the thread for weavers and sewists to use has to come from somewhere, so there are limited possibilities: spinners transition to hand spinning and spend a lot more person-hours at it to produce the same quantity of thread; thread imports rise; cloth production drops; cloth is worn even more thoroughly before being handed down or discarded; quiet rebels still have and use spinning wheels. and really my money's on all of the above.
so between the working-class women whose spinning wheels are getting burned; at least one mercantile interest in imports; at least one mercantile interest in domestic weaving and sewing; at least one temple to (if not Athena Herself) a patron of fibercrafts; and at least one upper-class (probably nobility) power-hungry person fomenting rebellion; before we even get to the monarch himself; before we even get to whatever mage the king pissed off badly enough that this curse is even in play…

(but. but I'm so close to finishing where the firelight fades…)
That never made sense to me either. Even if by some miracle everyone's clothes lasted for sixteen-eighteen years (and all the children's clothes grew with them), they would get ripped. Where would they get the thread for mending?
I bought yarn for Christmas presents. Otherwise I didn't do much this week. Got to work harder this upcoming week, as I want to finish some projects for Nerdopolis.
I've had a LOT of migraines this week. Did not and will not manage the musical component of my weekly goals but I am almost ready to publish the penultimate chapter of my arsonist Cinderella tale. I just need to finish an art.
Yep. Instead of wishing for a chance to go to the ball, she wishes to burn down her stepmother's house and escape. I've been doing it for sunshine_challenge and it's all here.
The Complicated Cross-Stitch project continues to continue. I'm teaching the Tiny Kittens that my thread bobbins are Not A Toy. It's more successful than when I tried to teach them that my yarn is Not A Toy, especially when I'm actively crocheting.
I've also jotted down an idea for a story revision and another story that I've been putting off for a year is getting louder as it knocks on my subconscious. Could the block be breaking?
I've been picking at a few WIPs this weekend, getting one story very close to finished (though I might sit on it for a while). Also a friend and I are planning a sort of roleplay fanfic project that involves an extremely rare ship that I'm now having all sorts of feelings about. But mostly it's been too hot to do anything.
I'm now calling it long-distance LARPing, haha. We're only a little ways in so we'll see if it works, but it's a fun diversion for both of us, which is the whole reason we started. Essentially, we're writing an epistolary fic in which we write letters AS the characters and physically mail them to each other. The quarantine version of LARP!

Date: 2020-08-17 06:28 pm (UTC)A roleplay fanfic project? Like you two take on the roles of the characters and write a fanfic based on that?
