now trying to track down a source that isn't Wiktionary for the assertion that 百合 (yuri) means

a style of 襲の色目 (kasane no irome, “color scheme of layering garments”), featuring a red outer layer and a reddish-gold inner layer, and worn in summer (from the way the color scheme resembles the coloration of the petals of certain varieties of lily)

as well as 'lily' itself and 'f/f'

I did find a source—had to spend a lot of time swearing at Google Translate, bc the translate whole page thing refused to translate from Japanese, and I do not trust what it says when it is translating from auto-detected Chinese a page I know perfectly well is in Japanese—and then the story rearranged itself in my head anyway so the character is sticking with the blues we see him wearing a lot of in canon

which I still punned on, it's just a different pun altogether
