Just Create - Hedgehog Edition
Jul. 8th, 2023 02:58 pmHave I repeated a title yet? I'm sure I will sooner or later...
It's the weekend again! What are you working on? What have you gotten done? Are there any cool events happening that you want to hype?
Remember to encourage other commenters and we have a discord where we can do work-alongs and stuff, linked in the sticky

Date: 2023-07-08 10:35 pm (UTC)I'll try to finish some more bingo squares and a chapter for one of my other WIPs. Also get a bunch of cardboard boxes for my books (otherwise I'll be putting my books in boxes in the night before the trip).

Date: 2023-07-09 12:35 am (UTC)This week I have been mainly watching videos about quilting, and spending a bit too much time on Reddit talking about quilting, and not much actual quilting. I did come up with a clever plan for how to make the tutorial quilt out of materials I have on hand. It will be hideous if I actually follow through. Luckily it will likely take me so long that I'll have time to buy some nice soothing white for sashing (the strips separating the blocks). My stated plan is to complete at least one quilt before it's cold enough to need it.
Today I spent about 45 minutes cutting out pieces for the first block of the tutorial quilt. I almost have enough room to watch the videos on my laptop for reference while I work. I'm learning to cut straight lines without wobbling - it's going to take a lot of practice.
Events! Bennington (VT) has a "Quiltfest" in September that looks like fun. I plan to go and see other people's work, I won't have anything ready to contribute myself this year. Perhaps I will find the mythical local quilting guild and join up.

Date: 2023-07-09 01:26 am (UTC)So, to explain 50/90 I should explain FAWM. FAWM is a challenge that in February, you should write enough songs to make an album. Specifically, the challenge is to write 14 songs in the month of February, though it's fine to write less (or more). There's a wonderful friendly, playful community and a website. So, some of the FAWM people came up with a new challenge--to write 50 songs in 90 days, starting in July. This year it was July 4.
If anyone wants a peek, the lyrics are over here: https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/25435
I should be making music for them soon, which (for me) often involves tweaking the lyrics to make them better. Think of this version as a first draft.
Having actually started, I will be writing more songs during the event. I'm not going to stress about making 50 of them, it matters more to me to work on writing good songs than writing a lot of them. (On the other hand, writing a lot of them counts as practice in the art of songwriting, which is a good thing, but still not going to stress about it.)

Date: 2023-07-09 02:08 am (UTC)It's an alternative history/fantasy story set in ancient times (specifically it revolves around a fictional empire that "mysteriously" died out around 2000 BC), kind of the "fantasy" equivalent to Mesopotamia and occupying some of the same territories, though expanding even further than those historical borders - and its history playing out differently, seeing as the empire's monotheistic deity "turned away from her people", thereby prompting the entire nation's downfall.
Currently I'm writing up the in-verse lore and religious background material like various myths, legends and lithurgical stuff, but there is a whole plot relating to these worldbuilding pieces waiting to be written whenever I feel ready to wrestle with that.
So far this week I've put out a creation myth, an end of the worlds myth and the main prayer of this religion's lithurgy. I'm hoping to write up the legend pertaining to the high priestess' function tomorrow (Sunday).
Like most of what I write, this was prompted by a character I created for Dreamwidth roleplay purposes and it just took off really quickly on its own. I still play the character over at
The general idea was just to give myself a playground to mess around with some of the stuff I learned years back, studying theology, and build up the basis of an imaginary religion inspired by the structures and similarities of various actual mythologies and religions around the world. So far it has been both very nostalgic and a lot of fun. Very challenging.
Also, for some reason I'd missed that there was a RF tumblr, but I've just joined it now and am looking forward to more prompts to work from!

Date: 2023-07-09 05:56 am (UTC)The Lin Moniao saga had an exciting week with a kidnapping and a group fight.
Things I didn't really work on this week but do consider myself to be "working on" include a silly interactive game and a TTRPG system, and I'm making a rules digest for Vampire: The Masquerade 5e.
I also started collecting some OC sandbox ficlets on AO3, which I am in no hurry to complete, and I'm pondering submitting something short for Erato II (

Date: 2023-07-09 07:19 am (UTC)I achieved the bare minimum quilting that I had planned, and then decided that I wanted more than that. To motivate myself, I separated the goals into phase one (cross lines) and phase two (diagonals) with a tentative hope of finishing phase one this week. And I have surpassed that! Allowing myself to just do one row has dropped the stress of 'how much can I do', and so I really have made progress. Phase one is done, and I'm over a quarter of the way through phase two.

Date: 2023-07-09 10:06 pm (UTC)I also find it useful to break things down into smaller goals. Some days, the smaller the better.
