I'm currently messing with my Wordpress theme (silversspace.com) and I spent a bunch of time yesterday reminiscing about my old websites https://wingedtyger.tumblr.com/post/726109958378307584

I had a job interview this week and have a 2nd round one next week.

It's very disappointing how websites have gone from colorful overlapping stuff and the possibility of organic shapes, to grey non-touching boxes.

I like having the options - clear, distinct box layouts can be really easy to navigate and organise, but they also sacrifice a lot of creativity.

It's nice to see the old websites of the 2000s and earlier and how much personality they have. :) I'd love if it that came back. There's probably a happy spot between organic and organised boxes, although I'd love to see a spectrum above all else.

The new block based wordpress themes are very confusing to try to customize.

I do not like some of the changes Wordpress made either. The block thing drives me nuts as I can't just highlight all the text I want to bold such as a snippet and it just makes it harder/longer.

There are a few things the blocks make a lot easier - tables and galleries - but they make basic stuff a pain.

I made dinner & dessert today. Dinner was lentil dahl with Roasted squash & served it with brown rice. I made a tried & true chocolate chip cookie recipe. I also tried a new recipe, for ice cream with no ice cream machine. It's whipped evaporated milk with powdered sugar & vanilla that's frozen. I don't know how that will have turned out but fingers crossed.

So the ice cream turned out pretty good. I had it after dinner so it had about 6-7 hours to freeze. It was very fluffy and smooth. It was a bit melty & probably needed more time to freeze. One batch made enough for about 4 medium servings. I used my stand mixer to mix it. I took it out to fluff it 3 times when it was freezing. Once an hour or so. Then I just let it be.

It reminded me of the soft serve you get a buffet. The kind that's more ice milk then ice cream but is still tasty frozen goodness.

Final update. After freezing overnight the texture was great. Very much like commercial ice cream. Still very fluffy when eating. We serves it with a half a Chopped up chocolate chip cookie on top of each bowl, which was amazing!

I'm still astonished when they come out square, and all the same size... They do get trickier as they go. I might need another fancy ruler for the next bit.

Finished a silly redraw of a 1902 cartoon.

Still working on an equally silly fic and signed up for an exchange. Still brainstorming ideas.

I volunteered to record a cover of another filker's song, and got my first pick (though it is a song I had big ambitions for, having picked it before I got covid). A couple of friends volunteered to be my chorus for the song, and so this weekend has mostly been cleaning up and mixing all the different parts we three recorded for it.

I'm really excited how it's turning out!

As background, all of the different covers people are making will be put into an album that will benefit a charity whose purpose is to support the teaching of music in elementary schools.
