I have fifteen scenes left to un-placeholder in where the firelight fades. Thirteen of those are mostly or entirely placeholders—actually maybe twelve, I'm not entirely sure how deep I am into one of them, but that scene is still substantially unfinished—and one the placeholder is a note with the gist of maybe three paragraphs I couldn't figure out how to phrase at the time. The last one technically isn't at all a placeholder anymore, since it had a note with the gist of a several-paragraph chunk and now it has the several-paragraph chunk, and it also had brackets around the wrong word and now it's got no brackets and a different still not quite right word.
Anyway. I counted up that fifteen yesterday. (Before doing most of the work on the last scene described above.) And then I told myself if I could get that down to ten—and, since the very earliest of these is in chapter nine of fourteen, I don't care which ten—I could post the first two chapters. (It's gotta be the first two because the first one is, for reasons, teeny.)
i have about seventeen placeholders on a story of mine, and i'm not sure of what to write on three of them. i've been thinking about writing it from the ending or just skipping the scenes i don't know what to write, and see if they are necessary.
writing the later scenes first so you have a better idea of what you need in the earlier ones is definitely a strategy that works for enough people it's worth you trying it
