Date: 2023-10-14 07:06 pm (UTC)Mostly I've worked / pretended to work because there's no actual work, and I've been reading more. I just finished The Secret Lives of Color by Kassia St. Clair, which is an adaption of a column she did talking about the history of specific colors. It was really interesting and she cites her sources really well so now I have a dozen more books in my 'want to read' list

Date: 2023-10-15 09:00 pm (UTC)I haven't come up with a title yet - it's going to be someting like 'The Lion Prince and the Warrior Girl' or 'I Fell Into the Split Tree's Puddle and Now I'm in Another World'. Being me it's also inspired by Thundercats and my conlanging for Thundera.
The Inuyasha equivalent is the ninth son of the King, an arrogant, 13-year-old boy named Merolik who gets exiled (for some reason) to a much more rural area (which happens to also be where I've done the most extensive conlanging). The Kagome equivalent is Adisa, a 14-year-old archer from the Treetop Kingdom on Third Earth. She falls into a puddle around a sacred tree in the forest while she's rushing home from the men's village where she was visiting her dad. She ends up in the same area where Merolik has been exiled - and can't understand what the cat-people are saying and thinks she's in Fairyland. They use magic to translate and Merolik, his chaperone, and Adisa head off to another town to try to get her home.
On the way, Merolik is an idiot and gets him and Adisa magically chained together so they can't be more than like 30 feet from each other.
Their chaperone is the area chief's son, who is supposed to keep Merolik out of trouble/from being killed. Like everybody around there he looks a bunch younger than he is. He looks about 14 but is 18, and is our weary 'I can't believe I have to deal with this idiot' character.
There will be no love story.
