What have you gotten done this week? Done anything fun lately? What are you working on this weekend?

I've been playing a lot of tabletop rpgs and have one that starts in about five minutes so I gotta run! See y'all in a couple of ours and I hope you've gotten a lot done!

I love that hat and the shawl! You are very talented. I really want to learn how to do stuff like this, but it looks so difficult. How long have you been knitting?

The hat is crocheted, and the shawl is knit. I’ve been doing both since 2007, so twelve years. I learned in back-to-back months: first crochet, then knitting.

I took to crochet easily. Knitting was a little more difficult: learning how to purl took combining techniques from three different tutorials. If you do decide you want to try the crafts, then here’s some resources!

For crochet, look up Kim Guzman on YouTube. She has videos for both right and left handed people. She’s an excellent teacher who uses large tools in her videos so you can clearly see what’s going on. Start with the basic chain stitch, then proceed to learn single crochet, half-double crochet, then double crochet.

For knitting, I recommend http://www.knittinghelp.com - she has tutorials for both English and Continental styles. Both are valid ways of knitting—i’m primarily a Continental knitter but I can knit English, too. A lot of folks say that crocheters will be Continental knitters, but that isn’t necessarily true—I know an avid crocheter who knits English. Try both, and see which style is best for you.

OoOoh! Thank you! I appreciate the helpful resources. After my husband and I finish moving, I am totally going to get myself into this. :)
