You know the drill. How are you? What are you doing? How are you taking care of yourself?

So I mostly knit and crochet with acrylics, as that is all I can afford. I do have some wool items, but only a few. One of the wool items is a shawl that I drooled over for years until I finally had the money to buy the yarn to make it.

I've only worn the shawl a few times. When I was putting it away a while back, I noticed what looked like a tear in the fabric. I thought maybe it had come from the pin I had used, so I didn't think too much of it at the time.

Well, I recently came into some money, so I thought about buying more yarn to repair the tear. So I pulled the shawl out of the drawer I had been storing it in... And it's got more holes in it.

Obviously bugs have gotten to it. I'm rather upset. I'm probably going to be throwing it away, and I am sick at the thought of losing all that hard work, along with the money spent on the yarn.

Two more wool items I knit also have bug damage. Those I am less concerned about; the yarn is gorgeous (malabrigo!) But the finished items were too small and never used.

My very best beaded shawl appears to have escaped being damaged. It's currently in the freezer (along with a pair of wool mittens sent to me by an international friend) to kill any bugs that might be on it. We've also obtained some boric acid we're going to use in my room to hopefully kill any bugs remaining.

But this has made me fearful of using wool in the future, which is a shame because I actually do like wool. I was just about to order some fingering weight wool to make a pair of mittens that's been on my wish list for years. That's on hold now.

How frustrating! I know you can get blocks of cedar to keep away bugs.

in one of the writing groups on Facebook that I occasionally pay attention to, someone posted this graphic of calligraphic font text reading "write until it becomes as natural as breathing → write until not writing makes you anxious"

my reply, verbatim:
on the one hand, yes! this is correct!

on the other hand, I haven't been able to write in a couple of weeks because chronic hand/wrist pain got really bad (and speech-to-text is just five kinds of frustration), and…not writing makes me anxious…
I thought it was better enough today I'd be able to write, and then I made a terrible mistake: I put the lunch leftovers away.

my hand is now not so unhappy I can't keep talking to people, but unhappy enough I shouldn't do much of that and definitely shouldn't try to write anything. not even the scene I have been stuck on for a month and a half and would really like to know if the thing I figured out a few days ago for unsticking it works!

(Thea is being very diligent about trying to separate me from all devices with screens and keyboards. kitty lov me.)

Thanks for doing this! It completely slipped my mind.

I skipped DnD today to work on stuff before Mom gets home. I've made some good progress in my room, but it's soooooo hot. I'll probably try to get the bathroom cleaned tonight while it's cool.

I finally finished knitting a scarf/shawl I had been working on for over a year. Well, I worked on it occasionally, I love the yarn but got a little tired of the simple eyelet stitch I was using, and I got sidetracked by trying new knitting things. It's done and it's pretty.
